There Are Three Main Styles Of Leg Protection
Protective pants (trousers) have pads made of protective material. The
pads are permanently sewn into the pants.
The protective pants are used as ordinary pants but the differences
are: they are protective.
The outer fabric of protective pants vary. There are protective pants
made of stretch denim which look llike blue jeans; other pants are made
in a polyester fabric for maximum ventilation in hot working conditions
or; made in a nylon fabric, restistant to water, snow, oil etc.

Chaps are used together with ordinary pants, worn over the pants. The
chaps are usually open in the back and fastened with snaps or buckles
around the legs and waist, adjustable to fit different sizes.
The protective chaps have an outer fabric and protective pads.
"Apron Chaps" are traditional chaps.
"Wrap Chaps" are protective chaps with extra protection around
the back of the legs.
Leggings are also used with ordinary pants. Leggings are put on over
pants and attached to the users belt by snaps or velcro.
