Where Does The Chain Saw Chain Cut The Body?

Chain saw related injuries have increased dramatically during the past years as a result of increasing numbers of chain saws, and an increasing number of non professionals operating chain saws.

Based on statistics from more than 2.000 chain saw accidents in Finland, Germany, Sweden and Great Britain, this figure gives a rough picture where the saw chains have cut.

The US Consumer Products Safety Commission's Report states that 37.000 chain saw related accidents occurred in 1989. This report states the areas of injury were:

Head: 3,091
Upper Body: 1,735
Hand: 14,381
Leg Area: 15,253
Foot: 2,817

NCFE, National Council of Forestry Association Executives/ FIRM, Forest IndustryRisk Management Coalition, Washington, in cooperation with American Pulpwood Association, APA, have for many years distributed "Safety Alert" sheets, describing accidents which have occured in the forest along with recommendations for correction.
