All about axes: The Axe Book

You Can Reduce The Risk Of Injury

you can reduce the risk of beeing involved in an acciden or give yourself a better chance to reduce the injury of an accident before you start the chain saw.
For a chain saw operator working in the woods, oftentimes it is the environment rather than the equipment or chain saw which can put the operator at risk.

  • Have an understanding of the hazards involved in loggin and learn how to work safely in spite of those hazards.
  • Study the Safety Manual/Owner's Manual which came whith the chain saw manufacturer.
  • Have a knowledge of good logging techniques.
  • Always wear good protective equipment: leg protection, safety boots, hard hat, protection for eyes and ears, protective gloves, personal first aid kit.
  • Be in good physical condition and mental health and not under the influence of alcohol, drugs etc. Don't operate a chain saw when you are fatigued.
  • Never work alone - but - never allow bystanders to be in the area where a chain saw is used or a falling tree can hit.
